Testimonials

In their words

Charles Castro and his staff were instrumental in finding the information necessary for my lawyer to challenge the previous court order regarding alimony. Their report was accurate and precise, and with that information the judge ruled in my favor. I highly recommend DCS as an investigative agency.

— Paul L.

I cannot say enough about DCS. When we met with Charles Castro, he was very understanding of our predicament as well as knowledgeable about investigations, evidence, and court proceedings regarding child custody cases. As a result, the courts appointed my wife and I guardians of our beautiful granddaughter. Thank you so much DCS.

— Dennis B.

Thank you so much Mr. Castro and DCS for an outstanding job during my time of need.

— Heidi F.
FAQ

Good questions

Frequently asked questions about hiring a private investigator.

Private investigators usually charge by the hour. Hourly rates can vary based on the type of investigation needed as well as how many investigators will be needed. Some investigators also charge for travel time and/or mileage.

Private investigators are able to access a number of information databases that are not available to the general public. More importantly, investigators have the training and experience necessary to relate database information to the case at hand. A report from a licensed investigator admitted into court, or their testimony on your behalf, carries a lot more weight than evidence you collected yourself — and sitting in a car taking pictures can get you hurt or into serious trouble if you are confronted.

Yes, regardless, you can hire a private investigator. Private investigators often work alongside the police and conduct their own interviews and evidence collection.

Investigators use their experience to avoid being noticed. A skilled investigator anticipates events and takes appropriate steps, and is on the lookout for signs of being noticed. If that happens, the investigator will fall back and allow a greater distance, or suspend surveillance if continuing would reveal the investigation.

In general, an investigator will never discuss what they are doing or say who hired them, and will take every possible step to protect the discretion of the investigation. If questioned by someone with police powers, they are only required to identify themselves.

Private investigators may specialize in a certain part of the field and may have additional certifications and experience.

All states require several years of experience, either in law enforcement or working under a licensed private investigator, before obtaining a license. Massachusetts requires 3 years of experience. The person must also have no felony convictions or pending charges, and certain misdemeanors will also disqualify an individual.

Private investigators must obey the same basic laws as ordinary citizens. They cannot pose as law enforcement officers or clergy, perform wiretapping, obtain cell phone or bank records via pretexting, or trespass.

Investigators have access to many public and private databases. Some of these allow access to government information, including motor vehicle information, property records, and more.
